In true historic renovation style, this kitchen was designed and built to look like it has been here for 100 years. But, in fact, there was no kitchen in this space at all. Owner Doug Maahs and his team at DMC removed a wall and a fireplace to create this new yet very old kitchen. “The client was creative and added so much to this process,” says Maahs. There was some cabinetry throughout the home featuring the carved panel doors made in Mexico, and the client wanted to replicate the look on the refrigerator door panels, among others. These, plus the remainder of the cabinets, have a hand-rubbed custom finish for the rustic patina. Despite the aged look, the cabinets have modern-day functionality such as soft-close doors, adjustable shelving and more. The columns flanking the range conceal spice racks, while the backsplash sports what appears to be decorative panels that hide additional drawer storage. A bi-level island serves as a work area with additional storage.
