At the heart of this bathroom is a vanity designed to look as though it has lived another life. Inspired by a 17th-century Spanish furniture motif shaped by Moorish influences, the custom piece was created for a homeowner who collects Spanish Colonial furniture. Intricately carved wood gives the room history and character, while its adaptation as a functional vanity makes that history relevant to everyday life.
“I wanted the vanity to feel as though it had been part of her collection and was given a new purpose,” says Chandler Prewitt of Chandler Prewitt Design.
The surrounding finishes provide a subdued backdrop for the intricately carved vanity. Plaster walls, travertine, sleek sinks and polished chrome create a refined setting, while artisan and vintage-inspired elements lend the space a collected sensibility. The key is mixing rather than matching. Nothing feels assembled as a “look.” Instead, the room has the layered, personal character of a space shaped over time.
