This kitchen juxtaposes traditional Pueblo architecture against contemporary sensibility. Exposed beams and plaster finishes reference the home’s original architecture, while dark slate flooring, streamlined cabinetry and simple countertop profiles introduce a cleaner aesthetic. We wanted to use old materials with modern clean lines so that the kitchen feels timeless, and we could layer in the client’s folk art, painting, and antique collections without them feeling out of place or dated,” says designer Julia Date who worked with Oden Construction on the project. Because the kitchen opens directly to the surrounding living areas, the material palette remains intentionally restrained. Quartzite countertops, a modern interpretation of a traditional tile pattern, and custom millwork create continuity throughout the home. Designed for connection, the kitchen also incorporates generous island seating and pass-through windows to the adjacent outdoor dining area.
