Rather than gutting the space, this remodel focused on restraint—opening the kitchen visually while preserving the home’s original character. Working closely with the homeowner, Marc Sowers of Bespoke Woodwork explains, the goal was to modernize the space “a little bit, but keep it calm.” A muted green perimeter palette, open shelving and a furniture-style island soften the kitchen’s footprint, while basket-style light fixtures introduce a warm, textural element. Thoughtful detailing helps the lower ceilings feel more expansive. Extending the sink wall into the bay area created room for a central gathering space without major structural changes. Painted cabinetry, a custom hood and restrained material selections give the kitchen an airy, intentionally unfussy atmosphere.
