Fauntleroy home

We recently purchased and are moving into this 2,800-square-foot owner-built, passive solar strawbale home in Crestone, Colorado. Built in 1997, it has wonderful touches such as handmade doors—each one different—three stained glass windows between rooms, a separate studio and separate workshop, and lots of storage. It sits on almost four acres with tall cottonwood trees, a seasonal creek, deer, elk, and other wildlife passing through, and beautiful views of the 14,000-foot peaks in the Sangre de Cristo range just east of town.

The owner/builders incorporated thoughtful aspects such as curving the driveway around one side of the property to the back, rather than having access from the side closest to the road. This configuration provides much more privacy and a very practical entrance to the home through a north-side mudroom.

We’re looking forward to getting moved and settled in and will send photos of the inside once we do. Thanks for the great magazine and website!
